The High School Leadership & Development Program extends Horizons SHU’s Pre-K–8 continuum with year-round academic, social-emotional, and leadership development support. Grounded in strong relationships and high expectations, the program includes a rigorous partnership with Sacred Heart University’s Center for Teaching & Learning, connecting scholars to high-impact instruction, mentorship, and real-world learning experiences.
Academics
Building strong minds for limitless futures
Academic learning is personalized, purposeful, and aligned to college readiness. Scholars track GPA growth, prepare for PSAT and SAT benchmarks, and follow a math pathway that begins in middle school and continues through high school. Through collaboration with SHU faculty, scholars engage in high-impact tutoring and hands-on learning experiences that build both confidence and curiosity.
Well-Being
Supporting the whole student
Beyond academics, the program prioritizes connection, belonging, and personal growth. Scholars participate in explicit social-emotional learning, join enrichment clubs, volunteer in the community, and explore paid summer opportunities that support both skill-building and independence.
Leadership
Developing the skills and confidence to succeed
Horizons SHU’s Portrait of a Graduate defines the skills today’s learners need to thrive in the classroom, in college, and beyond. Through intentional leadership development, scholars grow into confident, compassionate leaders who are adaptable, collaborative, and deeply connected to their community. They graduate prepared not only for college and career, but for purposeful, engaged lives.
